What's in Our Sitopaladi Churna?

Did you know sitopaladi has a fixed recipe?

16:8:4:2:1.

Written down centuries ago, and not changed since.

16 Mishri — cools the throat, balances the heat

8 Vanshlochan — bamboo silica, for the lungs

4 Pippali — clears mucus, and carries the rest in

2 Elaichi — digestion and appetite

1 Dalchini — warmth and protection

If the cough won't clear:

  • Loosens the phlegm sitting in their chest
  • Soothes a raw, scratchy throat
  • Eases a blocked, running nose
  • Brings back the appetite the fever took

A pinch with honey, after meals. That's the whole remedy.

No refined sugar. No preservatives. No colour, no fragrance.

For children 1 year and above. Adults too.

How to Use?

Mix it

  • Equal parts churna and honey, into a thick paste
  • Dry cough: add a drop of warm ghee with the honey
  • Wet cough: mix into a small cup of lukewarm water instead

Dosage by age

  • 1–3 years — a pinch, 2–3 times a day
  • 3–10 years — ½ tsp, 2–3 times a day
  • 10+ years and adults — 1 tsp, 2–3 times a day

Always after meals

  • Pippali and dalchini are warming. On an empty stomach they can feel sharp.
  • Let your child lick the paste slowly rather than swallowing it at once
  • Never give honey to a child under 12 months
Did you Know?

Vanshlochan isn't a herb. It's what forms inside bamboo. A white, silica-rich substance that collects in the hollow joints of the stem. Scientists describe it as an opal of plant origin.

Pippali doesn't just clear mucus. It carries the rest of the formula in. Its active compound, piperine, is a bioenhancer it helps the body absorb everything mixed with it. Classical Ayurveda paired it deliberately.

Mishri isn't there for sweetness. Pippali and dalchini are hot. Mishri cools them down, so a formula strong enough to work stays gentle enough for a one-year-old.

Why ParentsTrust it

Sitopaladi Churna | Relief from Cough, Cold & Throat Pain | Made with Pippali, Tvak, Vanshlochan, Ela & Sharkara

A Classical Formula, Not a Modern One

This is sitopaladi churna for cough as it appears in the classical texts five ingredients, unchanged. Nothing added, nothing substituted.

One Jar, Both Kinds of Cough

Mixed with honey and ghee it calms a dry, ticklish cough. Mixed with warm water it loosens a chesty one. Most remedies do one.

No Sleepy Afternoons

No sedating antihistamines. Your child can take a dose after lunch and still be alert at school.

Mishri, Not Refined Sugar

Unrefined rock sugar does a real job here it balances the heat of pippali and dalchini. It isn't filler and it isn't there for taste alone.

It Helps Them Eat Again

Fever and infection flatten a child's appetite. Elaichi and pippali gently rekindle it, so recovery isn't slowed by a week of skipped meals.

Safe From One Year

An ayurvedic churna for cough gentle enough for a toddler at a pinch-sized dose, and effective enough for an adult at a teaspoon.

Sharkara

Sharkara

Sharkara, commonly known as Mishri or rock sugar, forms the largest part of this classical Ayurvedic blend.

  • Helps make the churna naturally sweet and easier for children to take.
  • Traditionally valued for soothing an irritated throat, which makes it a useful part of a cough and cold formulation.
  • Helps balance the stronger, warming taste of ingredients like Pippali and cinnamon.
  • Makes Sitopaladi Churna more pleasant for little ones, especially when mixed with honey as directed.
  • Its soothing quality complements the formula's focus on dry cough, throat discomfort and seasonal respiratory troubles.
  • As the base of this classical formulation, Sharkara brings together the other ingredients while making the overall churna easier to consume.
Vanshlochan

Vanshlochan

Vanshlochan is a traditional Ayurvedic ingredient obtained from the bamboo plant and is an important part of Sitopaladi Churna.

  • Traditionally used in Ayurvedic formulations for cough and respiratory discomfort.
  • Supports the body's natural process of clearing mucus, making it especially relevant when congestion accompanies a cough.
  • Helps complement Pippali's respiratory-supporting role in the formula.
  • Its traditional use makes it a natural fit for children dealing with seasonal cough, cold and throat discomfort.
  • Adds a soothing and supportive touch to the respiratory-focused formulation.
  • With Vanshlochan making up 25.81% of the churna, it plays a meaningful role in the overall classical formulation.
Pippali

Pippali

Pippali, or Indian Long Pepper, is a warming Ayurvedic spice traditionally used for respiratory and digestive support.

  • Traditionally used to support comfort during cough, cold and respiratory discomfort.
  • Helps support the natural clearing of mucus, making it particularly useful when a cough comes with congestion.
  • Its warming nature complements the other ingredients in Sitopaladi Churna and makes the formula especially suited to seasonal respiratory discomfort.
  • Pippali is the second-largest herbal component in the formulation after Vanshlochan, so it plays an important role in the churna's respiratory action.
  • It contains piperine, a naturally occurring plant compound that has been studied for several biological properties.
  • Research has also explored Pippali for acute respiratory infections, with some promising findings, although better-quality clinical studies are still needed.
Ela

Ela

Ela, better known as green cardamom, is a fragrant Ayurvedic spice traditionally valued for digestive and respiratory comfort.

  • Traditionally used to support comfort during cough, throat irritation and congestion.
  • Helps give Sitopaladi Churna its pleasant, mildly sweet and aromatic taste, making it easier for children to take.
  • Its traditional digestive properties complement the stronger spices used in the formulation.
  • Works alongside Pippali and Tvak to support the formula's focus on seasonal cough and cold discomfort.
  • Cardamom contains naturally occurring aromatic compounds that have been studied for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Its gentle, familiar flavour also helps balance the warmth of Pippali and cinnamon in the overall blend.
Tvak

Tvak

Tvak, commonly known as cinnamon or Dalchini, is a warming Ayurvedic spice traditionally used for respiratory and digestive wellness.

  • Traditionally used to support comfort during cough, cold and throat irritation.
  • Its warming nature complements Pippali and helps give Sitopaladi Churna its characteristic herbal profile.
  • Cinnamon has been traditionally used for respiratory and digestive concerns, making it a natural fit for this classical formulation.
  • It contains naturally occurring compounds that have shown antimicrobial (helps fight certain microbes) activity in laboratory studies.
  • Adds another layer of respiratory support alongside Pippali and Vanshlochan.
  • Even though Tvak is present in the smallest quantity in the formula, it works together with the other four ingredients to complete the traditional Sitopaladi blend.

Frequently Asked Questions

All the details you need to choose, mix, and get the most out of Sitopaladi Churna.

What is Sitopaladi Churna and how does it help kids with cold and cough?

Sitopaladi Churna is a classic Ayurvedic herbal formulation recognized for its effectiveness in restoring respiratory wellness. It acts as a natural remedy for both dry and wet coughs, clears stubborn chest phlegm, soothes throat irritation, and helps drain a runny nose caused by seasonal shifts or environmental allergies.

What are the main active ingredients in Sitopaladi Churna?

Sitopaladi Churna consists of five key ingredients that work synergistically together. Mishri cools the digestive tract and balances heat, Vanslochan builds internal respiratory strength, Pippali acts as a potent natural decongestant to clear phlegm, Elaichi aids digestion and boosts sick appetite, and Dalchini provides strong anti-infective protection.

Is Sitopaladi Churna good for a dry cough or a wet cough?

Sitopaladi Churna works equally well for both dry and wet coughs because it adapts to the illness depending on what vehicle it is paired with. For a dry, ticklish cough, mixing the powder with equal parts honey and ghee coats the throat and calms irritation. For a wet, chesty cough with heavy mucus, mixing it with warm water or honey helps loosen and expel phlegm smoothly.

What is the correct Sitopaladi Churna dosage for toddlers and children?

For toddlers between 1 and 3 years old, the proper dose is a tiny pinch (roughly 125 to 250 mg) given two to three times daily after meals. For children aged 3 to 10 years, administer one-quarter to one-half teaspoon (1 to 2 grams) two to three times daily. Older children above 10 years and adults can take 1 teaspoon (3 grams) per dose after meals. Note that honey should never be given to infants under 12 months old.

How should I give Sitopaladi Churna to my child?

The simplest way to give Sitopaladi Churna is to mix the measured powder with half a teaspoon of raw organic honey into a smooth paste and let your child lick it slowly. If your child has a wet cough, you can mix it into a small cup of lukewarm water instead. For a dry cough, mixing the powder with a drop of warm ghee alongside honey works best.

Does Sitopaladi Churna make kids feel sleepy or drowsy?

No, Sitopaladi Churna does not cause drowsiness or daytime fatigue. Unlike conventional OTC cough syrups that often rely on sedating antihistamines, this pure herbal formula eases congestion and clears airways naturally without affecting your child's sleep cycles or alertness.

Can Sitopaladi Churna be given daily for immunity during seasonal changes?

Yes, Sitopaladi Churna can be given proactively for 1 to 2 weeks during seasonal shifts or high-exposure periods to build respiratory defense against dust and pollen allergies. However, it is primarily a therapeutic remedy for relief during illness rather than an all-year daily supplement.
